Ambleside is not included in the NBN rollout of fibre services, but we finally have some choice available, however, you need to evaluate each plan and see what suits your circumstances.

A/VDSL (website: various providers Telstra, Optus, etc)

  • Service Provision Outline. Relatively slow speeds compared to newer wireless offerings - especially in peak times, OK price, excellent data limits, low set up costs, latency can vary.

  • Availability and Limitations. Available now; however, the number of providers offering A/VDSL plans is shrinking (due to providers moving away from expensive ‘copper services’).

Note, if you disconnect your landline/ADSL services, you may not be able to get the services reconnected.

NBN satellite (Skymuster)

  • Service Provision Outline. Generally OK speeds, but reportedly unreliable speeds especially in peak times, expensive, poor data limits, low setup costs, high latency.

  • Availability and Limitations. Available now

Yless4u

  • Service Provision Outline. Good speeds, good prices for their connecting country community plan, excellent data limits, low setup cost, ok latency.

  • Availability and Limitations. Available now, some residents have connected and are happy with speeds however, this requires direct line-of-sight between the service transmission tower and the residence antenna to function correctly. There has been some outages but these are fixed quickly.

Starlink

  • Service Provision Outline. Good to very good speeds, slightly more expensive than ADSL or Yless4u, excellent data limits, high setup cost, ok latency.

  • Availability and Limitations. Available now.

Note: The commercial internet offerings mentioned are not endorsed by the Committee; they have simply been identified as potential alternatives to the status quo for wireless internet services only (and not mobile phone or landline telephony) so only internet-based communications services are on offer (e.g. email, internet, skype, VOIP, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc).
